A friend and I rented a canal boat in Wales which we piloted along forests and fields, over the highest aqueduct in the world, mooring at quaint villages. We had no previous boating experience and I loved learning new skills as we traveled. Almost everyone on the canal says Hello as if it is its own small community.
One of my favorite places has always been New Orleans, as a musician and artist I am drawn to it. It's been a long time since I was there. Love the food love the music and love the dancing. At 82 dancing is something I miss. I only left the US to go to Mexico a couple of times.
Perugia. Though not a fan of chocolate, I went to a Chocolate Festival there once....it was so much fun. And I attended the Perugia Jazz Festival (Berklee College event) and met Tony Bennett!......well, waited at the back door until he came out and gave him a box of Perugina chocolates.
We lived in Rome for three years 1974-1977 and have visited many times since. This wonderful story brings back so many memories. Thank you so much for the serial and comraderie
My favorite place in the world is Georgian Bay, Ontario. My great aunt bought a tiny island in 1900 for $5.00. Five generations have spent summers there. For exotic travel: the Uhygur area of China, the Yangtze River, Tibet, Saudi Arabia. Interacting with the amazing pavement dweller women in Mumbai.
In the fall of 2019 I walked on the Camino de Santiago in Spain which was a journey into who I am. I love to travel and especially enjoy Roads Scholar trips: bike trips- 6 so far, and grandparent trips. I slept on the submarine that was used in the movie, Hunt for Red October, on a Road Scholar grandparent trip. Let me tell you how hard it is to get out of those bunks on a submarine. Learning and growing through travel is my ration d’ entre.
Just last month my bestie and I went on Viking's Rhine River Getaway and LOVED it. In 2018 I went with other friends to Scotland - a highlands bus tour which I also LOVED. Also a lovely train tour to many countries in Europe in 1999. Traveling anywhere in Europe is my favorite. Planning for Northern Ireland, where my mother's people came from, next year. Future dream: Istanbul to see the Sufi Whirling Dervishes.
The trip that took me to another world - Africa. There are scenes and people I will never forget from that trip. Future trips that I am looking forward too will be closer to home but going to friends and family.
This story is a nail-biter page-turner! Such mystery in such a mysterious location. Speaking of mysterious location, after scouring my Google Map around Florence, Italy, all along the Arno river, trying to decipher the clues, I have come to the conclusion that Calabresi is in fact a fictitious location. So sneaky!
Regarding favorite trips and destinations, there are just to many magical ones to list. This story immediately brings to mind our recent trip to Tuscany, namely Siena. Then we drove to Assisi, Pompeii, Positano, ending in Rome, all amazing.
Other destinations that come to mind from big trips like Antactica, magical. Regular dive trips to the Caribbean, Tahiti, Hawaii. Or more local trips, we've been several times all around Jackson, WY, and Yellowstone, the wildlife and natural wonders, especially the grizzlies, wolves, and geysers. Believe it or not, it remains one of our top five destinations.
Favorite trip was heading out in my camper van after graduation w/ my college BF. We spent 6 months driving and camping from Seattle across Canada to Minnesota, then east to Michigan, back to Canada at Windsor to Quebec City, south to Key West, followed the Gulf from Tampa to New Orleans, west to San Antonio, west to Las Cruces, northwest to San Francisco, then back to start. We stayed off the Interstates whenever possible because we wanted to interact with local residents, check out interesting historical locations, try local cuisine, etc. As for a desired future trip? Southern Spain intrigues me.
I’ve been to Ireland to visit family and tour around twice. I saw why it’s called the Emerald Isle--I had never seen nature so green anywhere! I’d love to see Paris, and of course, all of Italy!
Small coastal fishes towns in New England. The mix of rain, mist, cold, windy, artsy, hard-working locals. Cape Ann, Massachusetts, roads that twist and turn.
After college (LONG AGO), my roommate and I spend 6 months in Europe, working and traveling. I loved it all, but my 2 favorite countries are Denmark and Greece.
Italy is always wonderful, eye candy everywhere, heaven on your tongue, and the best clothes and shoes on earth but my favorite trip so far was Turkey. This was before the current strong man administration, when Ataturk rule and customs were still the norm so I imagine some things have changed. It was enough western for me to be comfortable and recognize myself but enough eastern to be very different and intriguing. The food was amazing all the time, the different landscape and the history astonishing especially Cappadocia. Traveling is an education and more I travel the more I put history together in a global sense.

I love Santa Fe, it is my heart home. I have many places I long to visit and fear I won’t ever be able to go.

I’m 73. I learned that the desire to follow a spiritual journey ran deep in me and that thousands of others have felt that and still feel it
Thanks for sharing - that will bolster my spirits as well.

The Camino has always been on my bucket list but it was not to be. However, a stone given to a friend who gave it to another pilgrim reached Santiago
How old are you Patti and what one thing did you learn as an example 🙂

Traveling anywhere in Europe is okay by me!
