I currently live with Tam Lin, a 4YO malamute. His predecessor was Fellow Traveller "Travvy", also a malamute -- Travvy's mom was Tam's great-grandma on one side and great-great-grandma on the other. I love the connections. They both came from a kennel in upstate New York. Before them came Rhodry Malamutt, a half-malamute who got me fascinated with the breed and was my constant companion in my adult horsegirl phase. (F/sf readers may realize that he was named for Rhodry Maelwaedd, the protagonist of Kit Kerr's Deverry novels, to which I've long been addicted.) I'm no longer in horses but when I was it was Morgans all the way, though I've had friends among the Andalusians and Friesians. Baroque breeds rule!

Chloe, Real Dog Rescue. From the Louisiana Humane Society. She’s incredible and went from rural Mississippi to Manhattan. She managed to fit in nicely.

My current cat companions are Libby and Pepe. As in cacio e pepe--he's black with some brown shading and gray accents, just like a nice spicy peppercorn. He was named by a gracious Italian lady, but was quite wild when I took him on after her final illness. Years later, we're best chums. Libby, however, wishes he'd just fall off the earth.

I have had many pets over the years. As a kid I had a Sheltie mix. She was my 6th grade graduation gift, though she really was the families dog. When I got married she stayed with my parents. After she died it was so strange to go to their house and not have her greet us. My husband and I got our first cat, Sancha, after being married for a year. Friends, who were riding their bikes out in the country, found her, wandering lost. She was about 4 months and solid black. Since they already had a bunch of pets, they started calling friends. When they got to us, we said yes! So glad we did. We had her for 18 years. 5 years after we got her, we got Rascal as a TINY kitten. Don't ever name a pet that, she did her best to live up to that name for almost 20 years! We also had Eloise, who I got from the farm where I had my show horse. Then Willy, who was dumped at the farm where I had my retired horse, Teddy. He was so small I had to feed him with an eye dropper for a week. My plan was to find him a home as we had 2. But after a week, I named him and that was it! He was the most loving cat for 17 years. We also had Spicy, Dasher and now have L.T. (Long Tail) and Tigger.

I also had horses (show for 30 years and race horses for 10 years). I have been blessed for sure!

Such beautiful photos of Bella and Principesa. 🎶 Pets, I’ve had a few....!

Cats, dogs, fish, bunnies, a breeding pair of Canaries (and babies), turtles, a fawn (rescued and eventually placed with an organization which “re-wilded” him over time so that he could eventually be released in the forest), two horses (a Morgan and an Appaloosa), and 12 hens accompanied by two roosters.

But always cats....from when I was a child till now. My recent cat, Buddhi, is a Blue Point Siamese who had been lost for over a month in the city of Toronto, but thanks to his Microchip, he was returned to his owner. The owner was moving to Florida and couldn’t keep him (a bit suspect, I thought) and was looking for a home for him. We took him in, and our dog, a Bichon Frise named Lillie and he became best friends for years. Unfortunately Lillie died at 14 years old, and now Buddhi is our only pet. He is getting on, and is virtually blind and quite deaf, but miraculously still manages to negotiate his way around the house. He will certainly break my heart when it’s his time to go. Now that I’m 76 I think he’ll be my last pet, but who knows how that will go.

Our two daughters certainly grew up with a deep knowledge and respect for animals.

I've had so many pets over the years, and all of them came to me serendipitously. I've had all my pets until they died of old age, the dogs usually around 15 or 16, the cats a little older than that.

Currently I am raising my two grand puppies! I have a beautiful pitbull named Miley, who was my eldest son's dog. My son died in, a car accident in 2020; Miley was in the vehicle with him, but she survived the crash, while my son did not. Of course I brought her home and she's been with me ever since.

My other dog is Ripley Bear, an Australian shepherd mix from Pine Ridge reservation; she belonged to my youngest son's high school girlfriend, who moved away from our town, and simply abandoned her young pup at my house. My youngest son has been enjoying a gap year backpacking through Europe and spending extra time in the UK with family (my mother was English) so his Ripley Bear was in need of consistent care, which is where I come in.

All of my pets have been adoptions, foster situations, or lost pets that never were reclaimed. Those beautiful creatures will always have a home with me 💞

Chester came from the LA County pound in San Pedro. He is a mixed mutt goofball at 11 lbs who has a very annoying habit of peeing when he's excited. If I've been on a trip, I need to be sure I great him outside and play a game of jumping away to avoid the golden showers.

When I rescued him, on the way home he wedged him self between the driver's door an my left leg. He still stays glommed onto me whenever he can.

We have a rescue cat. Minnie has been with us 14 years. She was in an overcrowded cage and will never go in and bag, box or anything with sides. She has a lot of attitude and demands (and gets) a lot of attention.

Arrgh! I'm still a bit worried about Bella's dam. I hope she continued a contented life, was it seems Bella has managed.

Pricipessa is incredibly adorable. We currently are staff to a Covid Kitty named Solange. She is indeed a "sun angel" and has us well trained by now. After a few weeks in "stir" (the Humane Society Shelter) we saw her potential and brought her home to warm laps and plenty of comestibles. It was love at first purr.

I have a 21 year old Calico cat named Miss Kitty. I got her at 5 weeks. When I saw her I knew in my brain’s computer I had seen a kitten just like her. For whatever reason and I might say the correct one, I rummages through my childhood books. In my collection of tiny short stories I found the kitten story. Her name was Miss Kitty.

I also have a Jack Russell named Harper Lee shes 12. Then at 13 is Oliver Twist a Jack and Corgi mix.

I don’t have a pet.The closest I have is a grand-cat, my son’s cat Cloudy. He rescued him from a park when Cloudy was just tiny and alone, covered in fleas and mewing for help. So of course he brought him home. He’s about 15 now and likes to sleep on the sweater I knit for my son years ago.

Because of a stroke I had 8+ years ago I live in assisted living and my son and grand-cat live in one of my rentals. Cloudy gets taken for walks on a leash every day, to the great merriment of the neighbors.
