Kir and Kir Royale are both so French, so Bourgogne! That in the Ilea in Dijon in addition to the meatballs the cafeteria serves kir, kir Royale and Epoisses the fabulously, famous smelly cheese of Bourgogne.
Champagne is only about 75-90 minutes away from Dijon. Where most of the mustard no longer comes from except for one maker
France is too far! Next time you are in Manhattan make a reservation for lunch at Zaytinya! It’s a Jose Andres resto, at 1185 Bway and 28th St. lots is small plates and lots of vegetarian foods and not pricey. Four of us had shared plates and the greatest lunch today! We didn’t even have cheese or wine! Fatoush salad! Falafel! More salad! Taramasalata, hummos, baba ganoush, an amazing all eggplant dish - everything better than similarly named dishes I’ve had elsewhere. It’s good I’m still full!
And don’t miss Midsommar on June 24 at IKEA or for the high priced spread with lots of herring at Aquavit!
Kir Royale is Champagne and creme de cassis, French after all. And if the French wouldn’t let Gianfranco Ferre design Christian Dior ( and they didn’t ), they won’t let one make a Kir Royale ( named for the Bishop Kir) with an Italian sparkling wine.
Had my first and only French martini a few months ago, with my daughter. Have wanted to make one at home since then, so this recipe arrives at a perfect time as she and my just graduated from college granddaughter are coming here in a week or so. We can sit on the patio and pretend we're in Siena.
I just rode my bike to the liquor store in search of Crème de Cassis, the bike ride providing the means and the justification for the drink (if justification be needed). Got home, made it, drank it, enjoyed it.
Very tasty! My husband liked it, too. Sweet, tangy, but best of all boozy! Thanks for the recipe. Looking forward to the next chapter of “The Italian Lesson.”
Just because it has vodka, that doesn't mean it's a martini. This is closer to the French 75 cocktail with pineapple replacing the lemon juice and the Creme de Cassis instead of simple syrup. Can we come up with a more distinctive name? Perhaps EJ's Revenge?
Kir Royale! My drink of choice for years!
You introduced it to me and I must say i really enjoyed it.
Yay! So happy you're here mom!
Nice mocktail versions. I'll make a point of discussing with Marcel when I see him next.
Excellente, Stacey! Let us know!
Wow, if that’s an example of the kind of benefits from this group, I’m definitely in for the long run! Now where did I put that pineapple juice....?
Har! Cindy, I raise a toast to your lovely comment!

Not very Italian but....
Amy.......are you literally trying to kill me????
I have so much saliva flowing reading your comment, I'm afraid I'm gonna drown here!
Please don’t drown. Go to fridge. See if anything looks appealing - perhaps an apple? A frozen banana in the freezer?
Some nuts and seeds in the pantry? All good pre dinner aperitifs ! Or
Dash into town before the sofa even miss you and grab some hummus and hurry home! And don’t forget the wine 🍷

Uh oh.
I’m going to have to send a care package so that there will always be healthy tasty snacks available.
No blueberry muffins though!

Sounds delish; can’t wait to try it.
Thank you for adding a mocktail-version!
That was Jen's idea! And it's even BETTER than the cocktail, Jessica!
Now I've GOT to try it! 😍
Every single version sounds delicious! Great way to use up my Creme de Cassis.
Wait. You want to "use up" your Creme de Cassis???" Wouldn't drinking it be better, Robin?
Absolutely, it would. Just looking at new and different combinations to mix it with. Cheers!
Can’t wait to sample!! You know this makes u an influencer??!!😁
HAR!!!!
ANNE!

Jonathan, you really KNOW HOW TO LIVE, sir!
You're my guiding light, E. Jean!
Btw, I’ve decided to start calling this drink a Cassino.
Must try! Thank you!
Let us know, Joy!

Woo hoo! Already got my money's worth! (And thanks for the various versions--very thoughtful and girlfriendy!)
Just sent your comment to Mary and Jen! I can hear their HOOTS all the way up here to my Mountain cabin, Jane!
Yum
A perfect description, Lisa!
Thank you for the mock tail version. Always good to be able to offer both!
Yes!.........

Now. You KNOW I'm gonna LURVE that name, J Crowley!
oh that is a beautiful idea!
