I watched Danilo retreat through the archway. When I was sure he was gone, I sat heavily on the nearest bench. So, now I knew—Danilo didn’t just hold a grudge against me, he suspected me of something. Worse, he seemed poised to do something about it. But what? Why? And how could I find out?
We need "Twilight Zone" music to accompany this! From the beginning I theorized that there would be more than meets the eye about our heroine, Anastasia!! . With all the twists and turns, is she hunting a international assassin--? Danilo? Now it appears she is corroborating with Marie , a friend, or ,is there something more nefarious going on ? All the guessing must make the author shake her head at my folly. Only she knows where this is going! Great weekend Tease !
Maria (codename M, ovviamente!), chief of some intelligence agency or other, as Anastasia clearly is a secret agent disguising as cafè owner... and nosy Danilo, being so overly inquisitive, has become a threat, so he now must be neutralised by counterespionage!
Reading these brief passages has me going back to earlier installments; I lose track of the storyline with the passage of time between them. Perhaps I could keep the story straight in between installments if every day in the US were not filled with events beyond our wildest imagination.
Having just seen Van Gogh’s Cypresses exhibit (twice) at the Met Museum, I’m wondering if the “occasional stand of cypresses” is another foreshadowing of danger? Cypresses are described as ‘flamelike trees’ in the exhibition...

Each installment is such a TREAT!!!! Two phones? Maria? Is this a romance or suspense thriller? No matter! I love it!
