Heh. I learned to knit and crochet from my mother who was expert at both, but I lapsed. Who knows, Backstory Serial may get me going again!

Late joining the party, but loving the vibes. As a lifelong knitter, I don't need another scarf, but I do love the pattern. I'm going to use it to knit the cuffs of a pair of socks. I had to figure out how to do the pattern in the round, so I'll share -- just the rib pattern, not the whole pattern for the socks! This could also be used for knitting a cowl or a hat in the round.

Row 1: k2, p2, *k2, p2,* k2, p2

Row 2: p1, k2, *p2, k2,* p2, k2, p1

Repeat between * around, repeat these 2 rows for desired length.

To clarify, here's what a section would look like:

kkppkkppkkpp

pkkppkkppkkp

kkppkkppkkpp

pkkppkkppkkp

Hope this is useful to someone. Happy knitting!

Just found out my son and wife are expecting their first child (and 1st grandchild). I was hoping to knit a blanket with hood, swaddle, etc. that is easy but cute. I mean, grammas knit things, right? Anyone know of a link to a good pattern? This backstory got me knitting a scarf, so I'm feeling confident. They live in North East NY, so can get cold.

I had very much hoped to join but ended up at ER instead. Was a recording made of either of the Zoom sessions that might be viewable?

I’m guessing that demand exceeded spaces on their Zoom. They might need one of us academics with top security and large audiences to host it. Guessing only founding members were able to attend the first Zoom

I responded to the email invitation, but there doesn't seem to be a link to the knit along. What happened?

I also responded but never received a link. There might be an unfortunate glitch in the script that processed their email. 😢

Hello--Where is the Zoom link? I rsvp'd on July 6 but have not received the link. I checked my spam, etc...

Ditto! I'm a subscriber from early on. I did not receive the Zoom link either. So sad!

OK So I've been looking at the videos to check out which is easiest the Sling Shot or Thumb method of casting off (or is it on?) Can't quite decide. To me it sounds like there's potential for a crime to be committed! Anyway it is with great trepidation I approach the Knit- Along on Sunday. I think I may be the class doozy but I shall do my very best!

I cast on and started the 2-color version last night, to make sure my needle size was right. I leave on vacation Thursday but hope to be able to join in on the zoom. Please post a time!

Please post the time for this knit-a-long ASAP! I may have a conflict and will need to make changes so I can participate!

Another truly luscious choice for this: Woolfolk Tynd. By weight a fingering weight, it is so light and lofty that it can be knit at a DK gauge up to 5.5 stitches per inch, yet it has a lovely twist and will show off the subtle textures of this stitch pattern. If you're looking for something in bright colors, this isn't going to be your best choice, but if you want something in understated color either light or dark that is deliciously soft to the skin, it's 21 micron merino and that's hard to beat. Widely available too.

I ordered a deep green light Arranmore yarn made in The Republic of Ireland from Spun in Ann Arbor, MI. It’s 80% fine merino, 10% Silk, and 20% Cashmere. I’m knitting this scarf for my daughter to wear to Renaissance Festivals in the fall. Thanks for introducing me to this pattern and enabling me to restart knitting!!

I love to knit, but I’m in the middle of another project and sadly I’m allergic to wool (even cashmere - a tragedy!), so scarves are a problem. May I join you with my current afghan project (and my cat 💙😸)?
